God's Provision

"These all look to you to give them their food at the proper time. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things." Psalm 104: 27-28

I came across this verse when I was reading through Psalms over the summer, and then again tonight. And, of course, those have probably been the two times I've needed to hear it the most. The verses before these go through all the things that look to God: the earth's creatures, the sea, etc. Everything in creation looks to God to provide and He never fails to. How much truer is that for His children? He loves us enough to provide everything we need, but there is a catch at the end of that. At the proper time Not when we want it, not when we think we need it, but when God knows that we need it. His timing may not seem ideal to us, in our selfish state, but it is always according to His perfect will. Furthermore, at a time that He deems proper, He will provide, and we're to gather it up and be satisfied. It doesn't say look at it laying on the ground and complain because it's not the color we wanted. It says to accept it, and be grateful. In the midst of a stressful time of decision making and deadlines, it's really hard to remember that God has promised He will provide. It's even harder to remember that He won't do it on our time table, but His. What he gives may not always be what we had in mind. But He will provide, just as He said, and just as He always has. His timing is far better than anything we could come up with, and we must gratefully accept His provision.
